Quinn Sweeney’s painting entitled “Love in the Afternoon” racked up the two top awards from the third annual Burgwin-Wright Paint-Out. The plein-air painter received the most votes from guests attending the art show and reception on Saturday, September 19, earning the People’s Choice Award. Organizers of the event also chose the painting to be the poster image for next year’s Paint-Out. Stationed on one of the terraces in the gardens, Sweeney painted a view of the west side and rear of the Burgwin-Wright House that also captures the detached kitchen house. The 16” x 12” oil painting will hang in the Paint-Out art show until October 16 along with the work of 22 other artists who produced 56 paintings over the course of the two-day event. The artwork covers a wide range of subject matter including river front scenes, downtown storefronts, the Battleship, St. James Church, the Bacon House, and of course, the host site, the Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens. A painting of the Dubois-Boatwright House by Ann Lees garnered the runner-up spot for the People’s Choice Award.
