St. Philip's Church celebrates 250th anniversary - with a little help from NC Dames
When Brunswick Town's St. Philip's Church celebrated its 250th anniversary on May 26, 2018, NC Dames were there in spirit, as symbolized by the floral arrangements the Society provided for the occasion. Assorted flowers and ferns decorated the windows behind where the church's altar once stood. On this same wall is a marble marker installed by the NC Dames in 1902 and dedicated to the memory of Colonel Maurice Moore who founded the Town of Brunswick in 1725.
St. Philip's occupies a prominent place in the history of the NC Dames. Starting in 1899, the ladies organized annual pilgrimages to the site of the church ruins in order to raise awareness of its historical significance. The NC Dames are credited with having played an important role in the preservation of the brick structure.
