WILMINGTON -- What color is spring? According to artist Kay Bilisoly, spring is the vibrant green of grass and trees returning to life in the sun. It is bright pinks, yellows and reds of the azaleas that show off their blooms at this time of the year. And it is a particular clear blue of the sky reflecting light upon the sea and waterways of our region.

The paintings in Bilisoly’s show, “Color of Spring” capture these colors, locales, and impressions of the renewal of life we call spring.

“Color of Spring” will open on Friday, March 23, at the Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens with a reception from from 6-9 p.m. as part of downtown Wilmington’s Fourh Friday Gallery Night walk.

Being a lover of art, Bilisoly’s degree in sociology included a minor in art history at Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia. She began her career as an artist by self-teaching and now attends workshops with nationally recognized artists and takes classes locally. In 2006, she was a recipient of a grass-roots grant from the New Hanover Arts Council to attend the Springmaid Watermedia Workshops in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Bilisoly is also a former instructor at Wine & Design, Wilmington, and Cape Fear Community College’s Adult Enrichment Courses.

Built in 1770, the Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with guided tours on the hour from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The recently renovated Visitors Center features an at gallery and exhibits about the history of the house and Wilmington.
