The Mint Museum of Arts in Charlotte, established in 1936, was the first art museum to open in North Carolina. The Mecklenburg Committee of the NSCDA-NC sponsored the Colonial Room in the museum by furnishing it with antiques on loan from individual members of the Society. The collection consisted of art and handicrafts from the colonial period, such as a Queen Anne table, a Colonial spinet, and a tambour desk. The Mecklenburg Committee’s Historic Activities chairman and vice-chairman, Mrs. Alston Morrison and Mrs. Harold Dwell had organized the display room with help from Mrs. Walter Clark. The exhibit brought hundreds of visitors to the museum.
