On January 2, 1985 at 3 p.m. at Miss Hart’s School House of Wilmington, the NSCDA-NC met for their first annual meeting. This was less than a year after the society had been organized on March 24, 1894 and was later incorporated on June 29, 1894. The formation of the North Carolina Society was rushed when the National Society realized that NC was the only state of the original 13 colonies without representation. Mrs. George W. Kidder called together a group of ladies to form the NC Society; to elect officers, a Board of Managers, and delegates to send to the National conference on April 14, 1894. Mrs. Kidder became the founder and president of the Society, and continued to lead for years to come. Within the first year the Society had 25 members, with an initiation fee of $3 and a $2 fee for annual dues.
