In 1921, Sulgrave Manor, George Washington’s ancestral home in Great Britain, was partially restored and opened to the public. The house symbolized peace between Great Britain and America, and honored the hundredth anniversary of the Treaty of Ghent, which was signed to end the War of 1812. In 1923, the NSCDA created the Sulgrave Manor Endowment Fund with a goal of raising $100,000 to continue restorations on the historical home.
